Dayton Historical Society

The Pocket Park is located next to the Dayton City Hall parking lot (one block off of Hwy 90 behind Dairy Queen) and is a small park with a picnic area and a walkway.  Location: 117 Cook Street

The Parker Park is located on North Winfree and includes a children's play area and a covered basketball court/group gathering area.  The history of this park is covered in the Organizations segment by the Priscilla Club description.  In the Parker's will, they donated money to the Priscilla Club to facilitate building of the park in 1932.  Location: 1207 North Winfree Street.

Although the park's nickname is Daniel Park, the actual name according to the sign at the entrance is "Gov. Bill & Vara Daniel Park". The park includes the Dayton City Pool, baseball/softball fields, playground equipment, covered pavilion, picnic tables, walking/jogging trail and restrooms.  Major renovations of the 25 year old city pool and facilities were completed in June 2015 and a 20'x20' pool supplies/equipment storage facility was added. Location: Take FM-1008 to 1 Arnold Drive.

Established in 1994 to protect a remnant of the bottom land hardwood forest found along the Trinity River, the 25,000-acre refuge is part of the National Wildlife Refuge System – a national network of lands and waters set aside and managed for the benefit of wildlife, habitat and you.

Champion Lake is basically an 800 acre cypress tree swamp that was opened to the public in 2005 with a boat ramp and dock. Reflector markings on the trees assist in locating the paddling paths.

The Caddo Indians dominated the region for 1,000 years. Today, this important bottom land hardwood landscape is host or home to many species of wildlife that reside or migrate through the area.  Directions: Take Hwy 90 to FM-1409. Go south on FM-1409 for 10.5 miles. Turn left at CR-417. Go 1.8 miles to end of road.
